United buckle under Bayern strain!

FC Bayern München fought back from three goals down on the night to oust Manchester United FC from the UEFA Champions League on away goals.

On a pulsating evening, United stormed into a three-goal lead through Darron Gibson and a Nani double. Yet Ivica Olić's goal just before the break raised Bayern hopes and after Rafael's 50th-minute dismissal, Bayern capitalised on the extra man thanks to a stunning Arjen Robben volley 16 minutes from time.

It was a repeat of the Dutchman's decisive goal in the identical away-goals win against ACF Fiorentina in the last 16 and means Bayern can look forward to their first semi-final since 2001, the year of their last European crown when they also beat United at this stage.

The home fans had a lift before kick-off with the news that Wayne Rooney would be starting, just days after Sir Alex Ferguson had said he faced "two to three weeks" out with the ankle injury sustained in the first leg.

United then made a dream start with a third-minute goal involving two other surprise names on the team sheet. Rafael, in for Gary Neville, dispossessed Franck Ribéry and played the ball to Rooney, who laid it on to Gibson. The Northern Irishman, making only his second start of 2010, side-footed a low shot inside the near post from the edge of the box for his first UEFA Champions League goal.

After seven minutes United had their second. Antonio Valencia teased Holger Badstuber out on the right before driving in a low cross that Nani, ghosting beyond the Bayern back line, turned in with a cute flick of his heel. Michael Carrick, with a shot, and Rooney, a header, then went close with Bayern were struggling to live with the pace of United's play, even with Rooney now hobbling. They duly made it 3-0 as Valencia broke down the right and crossed for Nani to drive the ball high into the net.

Two minutes later, however, Bayern pulled a goal back through Olić. Latching onto Thomas Müller's flicked header, the Croatian shrugged aside Michael Carrick and beat Edwin van der Sar from a tight angle.

Louis van Gaal sent on Mario Gómez for Müller at the interval and within five minutes Bayern found themselves with a man advantage when Rafael collected a second yellow for pulling back Ribéry.

With Rooney making way for John O'Shea, Bayern pressed for a second and Van der Sar punched clear a Ribéry drive just before the hour while Gómez skimmed the crossbar with a header. It was not all one-way traffic, not with United's counterattacking threat – twice Butt saved well from Nani, while Carrick and Gibson spurned half-chances.

With 16 minutes remaining, though, Robben broke United's resistance by levelling the aggregate scores at 4-4. Ribéry's corner found him on the edge of the box and the Dutchman drove the ball on the volley past a helpless Van der Sar and into the far corner. For United, the dream of a third successive final was over.

Giggs warns Bayern of Red Devils assault!!!!

LONDON: Ryan Giggs has warned Bayern Munich to expect a ferocious assault from Manchester United in today's (early tomorrow morning in Malaysia) Champions League quarter-final second leg at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side trail 2-1 from last week's first leg in Munich and only a 1-0 victory or a two-goal winning margin will be enough to book a semi-final showdown with Lyon or Bordeaux.

After Saturday's home defeat against Chelsea surrendered the initiative in the Premier League title race, the Champions League could be United's only hope of adding more silverware to the League Cup won in February.

With leading scorer Wayne Rooney in a race against time to recover from an ankle injury suffered in Germany, it would be understandable if an air of despondency had descended on United's training ground this week.

While Old Trafford can be a subdued stadium for mundane league matches, on big European occasions it is a far more hostile arena. Giggs knows United have often fed off the extra energy of a raucous capacity crowd and he expects a repeat today.


"You have to give credit to Bayern who made it very difficult for us," Giggs said. "But I am confident that we can raise our game at home. We have done it many times before and we'll have to do it again."

"It's not insurmountable. Although we were disappointed to have lost two late goals, 2-1 isn't the worst result in the world. We now know what we have to do at home," Fletcher said.

"You don't play any bad sides in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. We learned a lot about Bayern and about ourselves and we'll take all that into the match at Old Trafford."

Manchester United v Chelsea L I V E !!!!

The big match in the Premier League this week pits Manchester United against Chelsea in a battle for first place. Both teams are coming off of lopsided victories in their most recent league fixtures.

United were winners away from home on Saturday when they knocked off Bolton Wanderers by a score of 0-4 at the Reebok Stadium. Thanks to that win the Red Devils continue to sit in first place of the Premier League table with 72 points and they hold a 1 point edge on the 2nd place Chelsea. United were also in action in the Champions League this week and they fell to Bayern Munich by a score of 2-1 at the Allianz Arena. The club lost key forward Wayne Rooney in that game to injury and he will be sorely missed during this big match.

The visiting Chelsea have a great chance to make their move in the Premiership log this week. After trouncing Aston Villa by a score of 7-1 at home last week, the side managed by Carlo Ancelotti are just 1 point behind United while holding a 3 point edge on the 3rd place Arsenal. The Blues have 5 confirmed injury absences in Ricardo Carvalho, Ivanovic, Ashley Cole, Michael Essien and Bosingwa, while Hilario is doubtful.

Rooney, yang sudah menjaringkan 34 gol musim ini, cukup penting bukan saja bagi kempen United dalam liga tetapi juga buat pengurus skuad kebangsaan England.

Manchester United berdepan Bolton Wanderers awal pagi esok dengan tekad melebarkan penguasaan di persada Liga Perdana Inggeris, berbekalkan prestasi terbaik musim ini.

Penyandang juara itu berkunjung ke Stadium Reebok untuk memburu kemenangan ketujuh berturut-turut dan yakin kerana penjaga gol, Edwin van der Sar dan dua tonggak pertahanan, Rio Ferdinand serta Nemanja Vidic tampak kental di kubu terakhir.
Dengan pasukan kendalian Alex Ferguson ini hanya dibolosi dua kali dalam enam perlawanan terakhir, United kini di persada liga sambil diekori rapat Chelsea, yang mampu memintas seketika jika dapat menewaskan Aston Villa, hari ini. Sebelum kemenangan 3-0 ke atas Fulham, Ferguson mendesak skuadnya memenangi baki sembilan perlawanan Liga Perdana. Menewaskan Liverpool 2-1 di Old Trafford hujung minggu lalu - satu petanda baik yang menunjukkan kemenangan mudah dapat disusuli apabila bertemu Bolton.

Sepanjang 10 pertemuan dengan Wanderers, United menang sembilan termasuk empat pertemuan terakhir yang hanya memberikan Bolton satu gol.

Perlawanan ini tentunya terlalu awal buat Owen Hargreaves, yang kali terakhir beraksi 18 bulan lalu selepas cedera di bahagian lutut, dan hanya bermain 45 minit dalam liga simpanan minggu lalu.

Dia sepatutnya turun sekali lagi bersama skuad simpanan kelmarin, tetapi pertemuan dengan Burnley ditunda dan Hargreaves dipanggil semula berlatih bersama skuad utama. Ferguson bagaimanapun mengetepikan bekas pemain Bayern Munich itu daripada skuad Liga Juara-Juara..

SEJARAH sekali lagi tercipta dalam sukan berbasikal trek apabila Mohd Azizulhasni Awang meraih perak pertama acara keirin Kejohanan Dunia Trek UCI di Copenhagen, Denmark, awal pagi semalam.

Selain menebus kekecewaannya dalam acara berkenaan di Pruszkow, Poland tahun lalu, harapan pingat Olimpik 2012 itu turut berpeluang menguji kemampuannya menyaingi pemenang empat pingat emas Olimpik, Chris Hoy pada final acara keirin berkenaan. Azizulhasni yang menyarung jersi putih UCI selaku pendahulu mata, begitupun akur kepada Hoy yang turut mengecewakannya di Beijing 2008, tetapi menegaskan sasaran sebenarnya adalah merangka strategi baru untuk merampas kejuaraan Olimpik daripada jaguh Britain itu.

Berdasarkan persiapan Azizulhasni tahun ini yang diselang-seli dengan kesibukan dalam pengajian universiti, pelumba kelahiran Dungun itu tidak meletakkan harapan tinggi di Arena Super Ballerup.

“Sasaran utama saya ialah memenangi emas di Sukan Komanwel dan Sukan Asia tahun ini,” kata Azizulhasni. “Jadi keputusan ini boleh dianggap membanggakan memandangkan prestasi saya tidak berada pada tahap terbaik.

“Apa yang lebih penting, saya dapat bersaing dengan Chris Hoy, dan ia memberi gambaran awal mengenai kemampuan sebenar di Olimpik 2012 nanti.”
Begitupun, Azizulhasni boleh berbangga kini sebagai antara pakar keirin dunia, selepas hanya ketinggalan setengah tayar di belakang Hoy ketika melintasi garisan penamat tetapi selesa di depan bekas juara 2009, Maximilian Levy dari Jerman.

Menurut Azizulhasni, emas dan jersi pelangi begitu hampir dalam genggaman sebaik acara final bermula, tetapi halangan dari Levy menyebabkannya hanya keluar dari kepungan ketika perlumbaan berbaki 50 meter.

Dalam laluan ke final sebelum itu, dia mengungguli Saringan 3 pusingan pertama yang menyaksikan seorang lagi pelumba negara, Josiah Ng, dibatalkan penyertaannya kerana menyebabkan Hoy terjatuh.

Pada pusingan kedua, Azizulhasni yang diletakkan dalam kumpulan sama dengan Hoy, menempah tiket ke final selepas melintasi garisan penamat di belakang pemegang gelaran 10 kejuaraan dunia itu tatkala Levy mengungguli kumpulan kedua.

Pengurus pasukan trek kebangsaan, Datuk Naim Mohamad, melahirkan kegembiraan dengan prestasi Azizulhasni itu.

“Ini satu detik bersejarah bagi negara kerana memenangi pingat pertama di Kejohanan Dunia dalam acara keirin,” kata Naim.

Hari ini, kontinjen dua pelumba itu akan turun dalam acara saringan pecut, dan Azizulhasni sekali lagi menjadi taruhan terbaik untuk mengulangi pencapaian di Poland tahun lalu..

BENJY Ditangkap semula selepas 5 minit

BENJY ditahan semula oleh polis selepas membayar wang jaminan di Mahkamah Majistret Kuala Lumpur semalam.

kegembiraan seniwati Azean Irdawaty yg b'temu semula dengan anak kesayangannya,Benjy setelah dua minggu t'pisah kerana ditahan reman sebab dakwaan penyalahgunaan dadah di sebuah kondominium pada 12 Mac lalu hanya mampu bertahan 5 minit je.

Benjy yg tlh diikat jamin oleh emaknya sebanyak RM2,000 di luar kaunter pembayaran jaminan Kompleks Mahkamah, Jalan Duta di sini semalam, telah ditangkap semula....


Benjy atau nama sebenarnya Khaeryll Benjamin Ibrahim, 31, sebelum itu dituduh di Mahkamah Majistret di sini atas tuduhan memiliki syabu jenis metaphetamine seberat 0.24 gram.

Benjy dengan tenang bagaimanapun mengaku tidak bersalah dan mohon dibicarakan.

Kesalahan itu didakwa dilakukan di APM, A-6-5, Menara Duta 2, Jalan 1/38B persimpangan Jalan Segambut di sini pada pukul 4 petang 11 Mac lalu.

Dakwaan dibuat mengikut Seksyen 12(2) Akta Dadah Berbahaya 1952 yang membawa hukuman denda maksimum RM100,000 atau penjara lima tahun atau kedua-duanya sekali.

Majistret Hafizza Sauni membebaskan tertuduh dengan jaminan RM2,000 dan menetapkan 8 April untuk sebutan kes.
